What I Worked On
I worked as a developer and contributed to multiple major app updates. My main focus was on the Video Train Station, an area of the app where children can stream, like and save videos provided by the German children’s channel KiKA.
Some of my key contributions included:
Improving app navigation, including swipe gestures, the navigation wagon and clickable train sections
Expanding video settings with geo-blocking and mobile data streaming options
Enabling deep-linking to allow users to jump directly into specific parts of the app or videos, by clicking on a link.
Integrating new voicelines
Completely re-implementing the visuals of the Train Station area
Scaling the app UI to support ultra-wide phone-formats (e.g. 25:9)
Handling Android permissions, including “Ask Every Time” re-prompts
Implementing seamless switch to offline mode if connection drops in the station
Animating the KKN character when changing tracks for added polish
Graying out videos that are unavailable and adding availability notices
Continuously fixing bugs and optimizing performance
Playing a key role in organizing and communicating with KiKA
And much more!
